ISD #595 is located East Grand Forks, MN, a city with a population of approximately 9,000 and located in the heart of the Red River Valley in Northwest Minnesota. It borders Grand Forks, ND and is very close to the University of North Dakota and Northland Community and Technical College. The district’s K-12 enrollment is approximately 1,900 students in four separate school buildings housing grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12. The district also boasts a thriving Preschool Program and lifelong learning opportunities through Community Education.

Basic Function of the Position:
South Point Elementary seeks a dynamic and dedicated Media Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering a love of reading, enhancing digital literacy, and integrating STEM and ethnic studies into the curriculum. The Media Specialist will manage the media center, collaborate with teachers to support instructional goals and ensure the implementation of American Indian Standards in Minnesota Academic Standards.
 

Key Responsibilities:
Media Center Management:
  – Oversee the daily operations of the media center, including the selection, acquisition, organization, and maintenance of print and digital resources.
  – Create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages students to explore, read, and utilize media resources.

Instructional Support:
  – Collaborate with teachers to integrate media resources into the curriculum and support classroom instruction.
  – Design and implement engaging lessons that promote information literacy, digital citizenship, and research skills.
  – Provide professional development to staff on media center resources, technology integration, and instructional strategies.

Ethnic Studies and Cultural Standards:
  – Develop and implement programs that incorporate ethnic studies and multicultural perspectives.
  – Ensure the integration of American Indian Standards into the curriculum in alignment with Minnesota Academic Standards.

STEM and Coding Initiatives:
  – Plan and facilitate STEM projects encouraging critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
  – Teach students computer coding and digital literacy skills using various coding platforms and tools.

Student Engagement:
  – Foster a love of reading and lifelong learning by organizing book fairs, reading challenges, author visits, and other literacy events.
  – Support students in developing research and inquiry skills through various media and technology resources.

Technology Integration:
  – Maintain and troubleshoot media center technology, including computers, tablets, and other digital devices.
  – Guide students and staff in effectively using digital tools and resources.

Community Involvement:
  – Build strong partnerships with parents, community members, and local organizations to support media center programs and initiatives.
  – Advocate for the media center and its role in student success.

Skills and Abilities:
  – Strong knowledge of children’s literature, digital media, and information resources.
  – Proficiency in computer coding and familiarity with STEM education.
  – Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  – Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, students, and the community.
  – Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.

Terms:
The salary and benefits package will be based on qualifications and experience according the EGFEA Master Contract.

Position Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  – Valid Minnesota Media Specialist License.
  – Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, Education, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  – Previous experience working as a media specialist or in a related educational role preferred.
  – Experience with implementing ethnic studies and American Indian Standards in the curriculum.

Reporting Relationship:
The Media Specialist reports directly to the Building Principal
