K-8 Mindfulness, Yoga, and Physical Wellness Teacher

Under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with the Director of Teaching and Learning, an NCS Mindfulness, Yoga, and PE teacher is responsible for supporting and guiding students by teaching healthy living, intentional movement, yoga, outdoor play, and cooperative play. A Wellness teacher at NCS provides instruction that aligns with the MN standards for PE and is grounded in a solid social-emotional learning foundation. Professional development is available over the summer for school-wide Yoga and Mindfulness implementation.
As Teacher:
Tailor instruction to meet individual student strengths, needs, and interests.
Prepare and execute grade-level lessons to fidelity
Collaborate with administrators, students, and families to ensure each student receives the support they need.
Maintain accurate, complete, and factual records on each student.
Teach skills and activities for healthy living outside of school.
– Instruct students in physical wellness activities, such as yoga, mindfulness, intentional movement, outdoor play, and cooperative group games.
– Plan physical education programs to promote the development of student's physical attributes and social skills.
– Prepare lesson plans and conduct daily classroom instruction in wellness, and physical education/health at an appropriate instructional level.
– Maintaining a healthy learning environment for the students in both the classroom as well as instruction
– Monitoring and management of student's behavior, including appropriate enforcement of classroom agreements.
– Direct paraprofessionals and volunteers as necessary
– Demonstrate the attributes of a lifelong learner
– Participate successfully in the faculty professional development and evaluation system.
– Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the administration.
Bachelor’s degree
Current Minnesota teaching license
Experience with diverse student populations
Demonstrated success in increasing student achievement
Mindfulness and Yoga experience
Experience and interest in the intersection of social-emotional and academic learning
Experience with Responsive Classroom techniques or Responsive Classroom-trained.

– Creativity and Flexibility: Teachers will demonstrate and promote creativity among students and serve flexibly in various roles.
– Teamwork: Teachers partner with teams for grade-level work and are engaged in weekly professional development with the teaching staff, continuously focused on developing and maintaining caring and supportive relationships. Teachers will also develop inclusive teams focused on developing and maintaining caring and supporting relationships through Crew.

Student day is from 9:15-3:45
Staff day is typically from 8:00 to 4:00 with flex.
