Description
Job summary: Assist the classroom teacher with instructional tasks, working directly and indirectly with students. Includes lunch and recess supervision. Park Brook Elementary is a school with a Focus on Fitness Initiative to increase academic growth and positive behaviors. The candidate selected for this position should be supportive of this initiative. While not a part of this position nor an expectation, at Park Brook there are a number of after school classes and the candidate can choose to work additional when the classes are offered. There may be weekend opportunities as well.
Responsibilities and tasks include:
- Assist in general classroom operational procedures such as setting up and operating audiovisual equipment, setting up physical education equipment, preparing and setting up art supplies.
- Work directly with students individually or in small groups on academic and motor or social skills, e.g., math, science, English, color recognition, decision making, self-esteem building, etc.
- Assist students and teachers in large group activities/projects such as art, physical education, dramatics.
- Seek out special instructional materials to assist with students having particular learning problems, e.g., separate math skill worksheet, not a part of teacher’s curriculum.
- Type worksheets, tests, or various instructional material; duplicate and assemble.
- Correct tests via computer. Record results in grade books.
- Perform other duties as assigned by principal or designee.
Minimum qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Demonstrate ability to work with students.
- Computer and word processing experience helpful.
- Applicants meet the Highly Qualified requirement if they have:
- Two years of study at an institution of higher education; Minnesota’s standard; A minimum of 60 semester credits or the amount required to complete two years of full-time enrollment as determined by the institution attended OR
- An Associate’s (or higher) degree; Minnesota’s standard: An AA, AS, AAS, (or higher) degree OR
- Received a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment.
- Demonstrate ability to work with students.

Salary: View Classification II (2) salary grid on page 4, section 2, and classification, page 5, section 2 on Educational Support Professional contract (Instructional)
View Classification I (1) salary grid on page 4, section 2, and classification, page 5, section 2 on Educational Support Professional contract (Clerical)
Work schedule: 4 hours per day, The hours will be between 8:50 and 3:20, with the exact times not set as of yet. Students go outside ro recess most days unless the weather is colder than -5 degrees (sometime not quite this cold) or raining.
