Position:  Bus Monitor (Multiple Openings Available)
Work Schedule: Mornings/Middays/Afternoons (e.g. 6:30-9:30am/11:30am-1:00pm/2:00-5:00pm), Up to 8hrs/day, M-F, 172 School Days (Summer work optional)
Start Date: ASAP

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • HS Diploma or GED and solid work history
  • General knowledge of school district operations, expectations, policies processes and procedures, and general knowledge of the transportation of students
  • Ability to assist students with patience and understanding
  • Maintains good hygiene with neat and clean appearance
  • Good attendance record
  • Work collaboratively in diverse environment with people of all ages including students with high level of integrity along with building effective working relationships with school officials, associates, students and the general public
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and oral communication
  • Demonstrated positive attitude towards people with whom one works, ability to work cooperatively and willingness to accept instructions and training
  • Basic working  knowledge of personal computers and office machinery
  • Willingness to continuously learn and be open to feedback to improve individual performance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous volunteer or work experience with school-aged students
  • CPR and first-aid certification preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with loading, transporting and unloading of all students on the assigned bus
  • Supports students with special transportation needs such as wheelchairs, braces, crutches, etc.
  • Supports the Bus Driver with maintaining the security of students on school buses and observes the special needs of individuals
  • Assists the driver in reporting infractions of school bus safety and cleanliness on the bus
  • Maintains current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures and the ability to locate and operate all emergency equipment, including the two-way radio, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and emergency exits
  • Securely fasten safety belts and/or other restraining devices
  • Make students as comfortable as possible during the ride to and from school
  • Observe students who require special attention because of medical needs
  • The bus monitor should not operate the hydraulic lift equipment for wheelchair students
  • Assist the driver in maintaining a disciplined environment on the bus by directing students to be seated, observe all bus safety rules and maintain an acceptable noise level
  • Maintains a high standard of student conduct at all times and display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school
  • Other related duties as assigned
